Different tools, different jobs.

Browser extensions grab one conversation right now, without waiting a week for an official export. Cloud converters give you an account, a search box and somewhere your chats live online. This tool does neither of those things. It takes the bulk export your provider already sent you and turns it into files on your own computer, without that file leaving it.

If you want live syncing, sharing with a team, or a workspace you log into, one of the others will suit you better. If you want a copy you keep, that opens in twenty years, and that nobody had to be trusted with — that is what this is.

  • Better here: the whole export at once, read on your machine, with every message either converted or written down by name.
  • Better elsewhere: grabbing a single chat this second, hosted search, sharing, and the integrations we have chosen not to build.
